Sumario:The article focuses on the shortage of computer software tools for use in synthetic biology. It comments on the development of a software platform, code-named Project Cyborg, which provides designers and researchers Web-based computer-aided design tools allowing nano-scale objects to be engineered in a visual design framework. It mentions beta-tester Shawn Douglas who developed an open-source software tool, Cadnano, which simulates the transformation of DNA strands into predetermined shapes. It reports that his work with computational biologist George M. Church and Ido Bachelet led to the development of DNA-based origami robots.
