ab: Together with the treating physician, nurses have a central role in caring for patients with hard-to-heal wounds. The abbreviation TIME (tissue, infection, moisture, edge) provides clinicians with a practical tool for assessing hard-to-heal wounds and the treatment provided once the wound has been diagnosed. The diagnosis of hard-to-heal wounds must be made by a physician and is crucial for understanding the underlying reasons for how the wound has developed or does not heal. Aided by the abbreviation TIME, nurses can determine the type of tissue at the base of the wound, whether there are signs of wound infection or whether the wound is covered with epithelium cells and is healing. Use of TIME together with an overall understanding of the patientGT>'s state of health can thus contribute to carrying out a thorough assessment and preparing treatment plans designed for wound healing.
