Ma te ri al and Met hods: Au topsy tis su e samp les used in our study we re ob ta i ned from a to tal of 114 adult autopsy ca ses ar ri ved to the Co un cil of Fo ren sic Me di ci ne bet we en Ju ne-No vem ber 2007. Me a su re ments we re do ne with Ato mic Ab sorp ti on Spec tro metry. Cop per and zinc we re de tec ted with Fla me Ato mic Ab sorp ti on Tech ni - qu e and le ad and cad mi um we re de tec ted with Mic ro wa ve Oven Di ges ti on Pro ce du re. Re sults: Cad mi um le vels we re 20.9-312 (?g/g), le ad le vels we re 0.037-7.49 (?g/g), cop per le vels we re 25.6-475 (?g/g) and cup per le vels we re 1.54-171 (?g/g) in re nal cor tex tis su e. Cad mi um va lu es in our co untry were com pa rab le to levels in many Eu ro pe an co un tri es and sig ni fi cantly lo wer com pa red to the va lu es re por ted from Ja pan. Re nal cor tex le ad va lu - es of our co untry were si mi lar to tho se of Nor way and Czech Re pub lic and sig ni fi cantly lo wer com pa red to the ot her co un tri es, es pe ci ally USA. A sig ni fi cant dif fe ren ce was not fo und bet we en zinc con cen tra ti ons of our study and the va lu es re por ted from ot her co un tri es. Cop per con cen tra ti ons that we fo und for our co untry were sig ni - fi cantly hig her com pa red to tho se re por ted for ot her co un tri es. Re sults we re analy sed ac cor ding to the age, gender, smo king ha bit and re si den ce of the sub jects. Re nal cad mi um va lu es in cre a sed with age and we re fo und sig ni fi cantly hig her in ma les com pa red to fe ma les. Le ad and cad mi um va lu es we re sig ni fi cantly highes among indi vi du als who smo ked.
