Ma te ri al and Met hods: Le gal ex pert re ports written by the Third Spe ci a li zed Bo ard of Co un cil of Fo ren sic Me di ci ne bet we en 2006-2009 abo ut ca - ses that developed unin ten ded con se qu en ces du e to thyro id sur gery we re analy zed ret ros pec ti vely. Da ta we re as ses sed with SPSS 13.0 pac ka ge prog ram. Re sults: Of a to tal of 28 ca ses, 23 (82.2%) we - re fe ma les and 5 (17.8%) we re ma les. Me an age was 41.3 ye ars. Of the ca ses, 13 (46.5%) we re ope - ra ted on for mul ti no du lar go it re (MNG), 3 (10.7%) for to xic multinodular goitre (MNG), 2 (7.1%) for no du lar go it re, 2 (7.1%) for Ba se dow-Gra ves, 2 (7.1%) for chro nic lymphocy tic thyro i di tis, 2 (7.1%) for re cur rent go it re, 1 (3.6%) for pa pil lary car ci no ma, 1 (3.6%) for anap las tic car ci no ma, 1 (3.6%) for fol li cu lar ade no ma and 1 (3.6%) for a re a son not sta ted in the fi le. Twenty-one (75.0%) ca ses un der went sub to tal thyro i dec tomy and 7 (25.0%) ca ses to tal thyro i dec tomy. Unin ten ded conse qu en ces we re hypo pa rath yro i dism in 10 ca ses, uni la te ral vo cal chord pa raly sis in 7 ca ses, bi la te - ral vo cal chord pa raly sis in 5 ca ses, he ma to ma in 3 ca ses, and he ma to ma + bi la te ral vo cal chord pa raly sis, ble e ding from the mar gin of trac he os tomy can nu la, esop ha gus in jury in one ca se for each. Ac cor ding to le gal ex pert de ci si ons, in 21 ca ses, tre ta ment was con sis tent with me di cal ru les, me - di cal practice fa ults we re fo und in 6 ca ses and it in one case, no opinion could be given in terms of medical practice.
