Sumario:ABS TRACT Ob jec ti ve: High tis su e le vels of fre e oxy gen ra di cals (FORs) ha ve be en re por ted in cor ro si ve esop ha gi tis (CE). The pre sent study ai med to de ter mi ne whet her pre dic ti on of in jury and la te comp li ca - ti ons in CE is pos sib le ba sed on blo od le vels of FORs, In ter le u kin (IL)-6, Tu mor nec ro sis fac tor (TNF)-?, and IL-10. Ma te ri al and Met hods: Forty-two ma le Wis tar al bi no rats we re ran domly di vi ded in to 2 ma in gro ups (A and B), each con sis ting of 3 sub gro ups (A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, and B3) of equ al num ber. To in du - ce ex pe ri men tal CE 17.5% Na OH was used in sub gro ups A2 and B2, and 37.5% Na OH in sub gro ups A3 and B3. The sham gro ups (A1 and B1) re ce i ved 0.9% NaCl. Blo od le vels of li pid hydro pe ro xi de (LPO) and glu tat hi o ne pe ro xi da se (GPx) we re me a su red in gro up A. Blo od le vels of IL-6, IL-10, and TNF-? we re me a su red in gro up B. Esop ha ge al samp les for his to pat ho lo gi cal eva lu a ti on we re ob ta i ned fol lo wing sca ri - fi ca ti on af ter 3 we eks. Re sults: The re we re sig ni fi cant dif fe ren ces bet we en the sham sub gro ups and CE subgro ups, re gar ding his to pat ho lo gi cal sco res (p< 0.05). The re was no sig ni fi cant dif fe ren ce bet we en the gro ups in blo od le vels of LPO, GPX, TNF-? or IL-10 (p> 0.05). The re we re sig ni fi cant dif fe ren ces bet we - en se ve re CE sub gro ups and the sham sub gro ups, ba sed on IL-6 va lu es (p= 0,007). Conc lu si on: In con trast to pre vi o us re ports, which de mons tra ted in cre a sed tis su e le vels of FORs, blo od le vels of FORs we re not high in this study. No net he less, in the light of the ob ser ved dif fe ren ces in IL-6 le vels bet we en the sub gro - ups, we sug gest that in jury and la te comp li ca ti ons of CE may be pre dic ted fol lo wing ad di ti o nal ex pe ri - men tal and cli ni cal re se arch using bi oc he mi cal met hods.
