In Nuss ope ra ti ons, the pla ced bar may pro ve short for the pa ti ent du e to ra pid growth and may shift to wards the me di as ti num. This may put pres su re on or da ma ge the vi tal medi as ti nal struc tu res. Du ring fol low-up, the deg re e of growth sho uld be de ter mi ned. If the re is a ra - pid growth, the bar sho uld be chec ked to se e whet her it is short or not. If the bar re ma ins short, it sho uld be re mo ved be fo re its 2-3 ye ars wa i ting pe ri od ends.
