The aim of this study is to eva lu a te te ta nus an ti to xin le vels in in di vi du als over 40 ye ars of age and to in ves ti ga te the vac ci na ti on and physi cal injury sta tus vi a sur vey. Ma te ri al and Met hods: A to tal of 361 par ti ci pants, 178 men and 183 wo men, we re en rol led in the study and blo od was drawn from each par ti ci pant to me a su re te ta nus an ti body le vel by enz yme im mu no as say (EI A) met hod. Re sults: Te ta nus an ti bo di es we re un de tec tab le in 55 ma - le (30.9%) and 71 fe ma le pa ti ents (38.8%) at the end of the study. It was de ter mi ned that te ta nus anti to xin le vels sig ni fi cantly dec re a se with age in both wo men and men es pe ci ally af ter 50 ye ars of age which is ac cep ted as the li mit age in which an ti body is li kely to be ne ga ti ve. Conc lu si on: In adult age gro up, bo os ter vac ci na ti on for te ta nus is re com men ded every 10 ye ars in de ve lo ping and de ve lo ped co un tri es, but this re com men da ti on can not be put in to prac ti ce as an ti ci pa ted. Si mi larly in our co - untry, vac ci na ti on of adult age gro up is not com mon and te ta nus vac ci ne is not ge ne rally ad mi nis - te red at every ten ye ars. The re sults of this study show that one do se of te ta nus vac ci ne sho uld be ad mi nis te red at le ast to in di vi du als over 50 ye ars of age, and in di vi du als who do not re call the ir vacci na ti on his tory sho uld be ta ken in to a thre e-do se vac ci na ti on prog ram.
