Based on findings of evaluation, we designed a subject used service-learning. Evaluation methods included: student logs, interview feedback from students who did or did not use the student site, and faculty researchers' evaluation as the support staff for this web-based learning support program. The study was approved by the Institution Review Board at St Luke's College of Nursing (No.07-035). Participants were recruited based on their informed consent and assurance of confidentiality. Findings revealed that nine students logged 30 reports. Logs described their activities, thinking, learning, and future plans. The PC web-site was unfamiliar to them compared to their mobile e-mail. In addition, they felt no obligation to log their volunteer activities. Most faculty-researchers indicated a low commitment to supporting student volunteers because of their lack of knowledge and expertise in using the educational web-based learning and they recognized they need to learn the technology. Based on this evaluation, our consensus was to develop a service-learning program for nursing student health volunteers. Developing skills of logging their activities, reflecting and developing their understanding others and importance of help each other as a citizen is paramount during freshman and sophomore years. Skill building in using web-based learning for students and faulty should be added to the next iteration of the program.
