Cosmetic appearance is important to both genders but especially so to female patients and unsightly wounds that are difficult to hide cause extreme problems that may have psychological implications. In addition to the effect that they have on patients, these wounds are associated with considerable resource requirements, which impact heavily on the already burdened NHS.
