| Sumario: | The need to share information about patients is particularly necessary for nurse prescribers to ensure effective care and treatment for patients. The requirement to work collaboratively with colleagues is a fundamental duty shared by all nurse prescribers. However, this duty to share information is often met with reluctance because of a misunderstanding over the extent of the duty of confidence to patients. This has resulted in the needs of patients being unmet and in some cases, tragic deaths have occurred. This article outlines the extent of a nurse prescriber's duty of confidence and considers the examples when sharing patient information is lawful. |
