      ab: This article addresses the role of interpretation in research in caring sciences. Drawing on methodological suggestions from Hans-George Gadamer and Per-Johan Oedman, it shows a way of interpretation on an existential level. The methodology is focused, while a caring science paradigm serves both as a background and as a theoretical framework--as paradigmatic thinking using an abductive process. The authors interpret an excerpt from a narration of an interview with a relative of a person suffering from dementia. The results give substance to the drama of suffering and health, and will be presented in a later article.
