Interdisciplinarity has been considered by diverse authors to be an alternative to reach innovative proposals for a new method of health care, one that requires capable professionals to articulate specific professional knowledge within the total knowledge network of the health care system. Analyzing the repercussions of interdisciplinarity in the scope of the nursing, one perceives that the wild search for professional identity of the psychiatric nurse generated difficulties for dialogue with the remaining members of the mental health care team. One concludes that the intensification of the partnerships between university and health services, the curricular integration of the disciplines of different areas, and the use of problem-solving methodologies within education constitute basic strategies to permit a more interdisciplinary psychiatric nurse.
