While related to depression, apathy presents separate challenges. Assessment instruments for use with persons with dementia include the Apathy Index and the Dementia Apathy Interview and Rating Informant Scale. Interventions include drug treatments, caregiver education and sup-port, environmental enrichment, and use of personally relevant pictures.
