| Sumario: | There are many health-related, quality-of-life questionnaires for measuring rhinosinusitis and allergic rhinitis available to practitioners and researchers. Many of these tools often do not completely explore the symptomatology of the disease process. The purpose of this study is to provide initial validation of the Sinus Symptom Questionnaire (SSQ) as a condition-specific health-related, qualityof-life tool to be used in conjunction with other tools for assessing symptoms and effectiveness of treatment. Secondary data analysis: subjects in each study completed the SSQ the Rhinosinusitis Disability Index (RSDI) and had serum interleukin-5 (IL-5) levels drawn. There was a positive correlation between the SSQ and the RSDI physical and functional subscales and the total RSDI score. There was a minimal correlation between the SSQ and the RSDI emotional subscale. There was no correlation between the SSQ and IL-5. The SSQis a good choice for use in the clinical setting by nurse practitioners and other professionals as it is a short, easy-to-administer questionnaire to determine severity of allergic rhinitis symptoms over time. |
