ab: Area Health Education Centers (AHECs) and Health Education Training Centers (HETCs) are organizations that focus on developing community-based healthcare educational programs, meeting the healthcare needs of rural and underserved areas, and promoting health careers. AHECs and HETCs are in unique positions to help nurse anesthesia educational programs develop additional training sites, because of their intimate familiarity with healthcare education and the communities that they serve. The purpose of this paper is to describe the history and purposes of AHECs and/HETCs and discuss how these organizations can assist nurse anesthesia educational programs.
