| Sumario: | It is estimated that in Spain there may be more than 120.000 cases of people infected by HIV The aim of this study was to assess the level of training about HIV and identifying the factors, which can produce an attitude of rejection or discrimination against affected patients affected, in the nursing professionals from Merida's Hospital.A transversal descriptive study was carried out. The population was formed by 90 nurses from Merida's State Hospital. The selection was achieved through a randomised simple sampling with a 8,2% of sampling error and 95% confidence. A questionnaire, elaborated by the Spanish Health Ministry, was utilised to collect data.The obtained results showed insecurity on the part of the staff (above all in older age groups) for looking after to these patients; rejection towards them overtly shown therefore, training programmes should implemented in order to provide the personal with upgraded knowledge concerning concerning this illness and consequently, a more positive attitude towards patients.
