| Sumario: | Background. The cognitive model of driving presented by Michon is reviewed. The role of the Paced Auditory Serial Addition Test (PASAT) to provide an estimate of the amount of information that can be handled at one time is discussed. The aim of the present study is to contribute to assess speed of processing and sustained and divided attention after a severe TBI suffered by young adult pre-injury active drivers, with good long-term recovery of physical functioning and general intellectual capacity.Methods. A group of TBI patients and a control group are examined. The TBI group is divided in two subgroups: actual drivers and non drivers.Results. The TBI subjects' performances at the PASAT proved non-statistically different from those obtained by matched controls, neither did we detect statistically significant differences between driver and nondriver TBI subjects.Conclusions. These results are discussed. |
