| Sumario: | In the winter of 1998, a team of librarians at The Citadel conducted a journal subscription review to determine if funds were being properly allocated to meet the teaching and research needs of the college. A review was initiated due to rising journal costs; introduction of online full-text databases; overlapping title formats; availability of document delivery services; shrinking storage space; and changes in the curriculum. The journal subscription review resulted in a reallocation of 50% of the reviewed budget toward new acquisitions of journals, databases, and document delivery services. This paper will illustrate how Microsoft Access was used to collect and organize subscription information from vendor and library sources into a comprehensive review database. It will also illustrate how the library and college faculty used this database to evaluate journal subscriptions and demonstrate how the database continues to evolve to support the management of the journal collection. |
