      ab: A satisfactory outcome following the provision of hearing aids may depend on several factors. An attempt was made to evaluate this by assessing a group of adults who were fitted with hearing aids. It was found that in the majority of cases (60%) there were problems relating to the use of the hearing aid. These problems were most apparent in the elderly (over 81 years). In this age group there was a significantly greater prevalence of manipulation difficulties. We concluded that early referral for hearing aids was essential for successful rehabilitation. Follow up after fitting of these devices was also shown to be important.
