| Sumario: | The following report is from the Journal of Rehabilitation Outcomes Measurement. As functional status and quality of life measure have become the focus of outcomes assessment, better information regarding the nature and quality of information derived from outcomes instruments is needed. The study compared the relationship between three measures of function on 42 individuals with chronic, work-related pain syndromes. Functional capacity evaluation, the Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Questionnaire, and the MOS Short Form Health Status Questionnaire (SF-36) are instruments commonly used by chiropractors to quantify patient's abilities and measure progress. Among other things, this study identified measures on the questionnaires that have the best predictive values for the amount of weight a person can lift on functional capacity testing. Combining self report and measures of performance may be useful for estimating function. Copyright (c) 1999 by Aspen Publishers, Inc.
