| Sumario: | This article describes the computer literacy of graduating student nurses in Finland. The purpose of the study was to measure learning outcomes in information technology at Finnish nursing colleges and to find out what kind of competencies student nurses had achieved. The data were gathered using a purpose-designed questionnaire. The findings indicate that Finnish nursing graduates (n = 373) had insignificant knowledge of information technology and poor computer skills. The majority of the students had used PCs for word-processing, but their knowledge of other software was poor. Most of the students also lacked skills in the use of nursing applications. It is clear that improvements are called for in the teaching of information technology at nursing colleges. Nursing and information technology should be more closely integrated. |
