| Sumario: | Although the etiology of pyoderma gangrenosum is unknown, histopathologic features are consistent with local wound hypoxia. Treatment frequently involves systemic drug therapy, producing mixed results with potentially increased morbidity. Hyperbaric oxygen has a substantial impact on wound dynamics by elevating hypoxic wound oxygen tensions. Several reports in the literature document successful treatment of pyoderma gangrenosum with hyperbaric oxygen therapy in patients who failed to respond to other forms of treatment. This case report documents the effective use of hyperbaric oxygen as primary therapy when used early in the treatment of pyoderma gangrenosum. |
