| Sumario: | A prevention program conducted with Latino low-income preschoolers offered a 'one-stop shopping' model of service by providing screening for developmental delays and referral to preschool programs for a group of 52 children ages 2 to 5 years served by an urban pediatric clinic. Five (9.6%) were suspected of severe-to-moderate delays, 12 (23.6%) were suspected of mild delays, and 30 of 41 (73.1%) children age-eligible to attend preschool, were not enrolled. The author, a pediatric psychologist, effectively linked a pediatric setting with an educational (Head Start) and a developmental setting, using culturally sensitive referrals, including on-the-spot, active, tangible strategies implemented by bilingual, bicultural workers. The benefits of this pediatrically based, culturally sensitive, interdisciplinary, interagency, collaborative effort are discussed.
