Sumario:This paper presents a description of the automatic implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (AICD), as well as information pertaining to indications for its use, patient selection criteria, surgical implantation techniques, and anesthetic implications. A brief hoisotrical overview ofthe development of the AICD is included. Complications, indications, and contraindications associated with the device are discussed.
