Oncology nurses (n = 205), nononcology registered nurses (n = 226), and female university employees (n = 232) answered a questionnaire about reproductive history, personal health history, and occupational exposure during pregnancy. The three groups reported a total of 16 birth defects: 1 in the control group, 7 in the nononcology nurse group, and 10 in the oncology nurse group. The strongest association observed was the apparent relationship between radiation and stillbirths and miscarriages. An association of chemotherapy and radiation combined was associated with increased stillbirths and miscarriages, particularly in second and third pregnancies.
