The treatments given are the surgical and conservative, but its long-term results are similar, with the difference in cost as the surgical treatment has much higher costs. Objective: To assess the effectiveness of conservative treatments for a herniated disc. Method: The studies were included in this systematic review that used conservative treatments noninvasive and medicated disc hernia from 2000 to 2010. We searched in electronic databases Medline, Virtual Health Library and PEDro filter for title and keywords in English and Portuguese treatment of disc herniation and physiotherapy. The nine included studies were assessed for scientific rigor, according to the criteria established by the PEDro database. We established a cutoff of 5 points in each of the two examiners would have to score points with individual items greater than or equal to 5. Results: Of the nine included studies, five studies showed low scientific rigor and 4 studies showed good scientific rigor guiding this review. Conclusion: Few studies actually controlled on conservative treatment for herniated disc. The few studies found did not control the source of statistical error.
