Remote Measurement of Respiratory Rate in Laboratory Mice during Studies of mdx-Model of Progressive Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Hardware and software for measuring respiration rate in mice are described. The design is based on slightly modified source code of the QPULSECAPTURE project. The measuring device based on an 86x PC and a webcam enables measurements with absolute error of 18 breaths/min in the frequency range from 2...

ab: Hardware and software for measuring respiration rate in mice are described. The design is based on slightly modified source code of the QPULSECAPTURE project. The measuring device based on an 86x PC and a webcam enables measurements with absolute error of 18 breaths/min in the frequency range from 200 to 320 breaths/min. The device was used for comparative study of a group of mdx-mice with mutated dystrophin gene and a normal control group. It was found that the respiration rate in the mdx-mouse group was significantly higher.
