Particular focus is given to how China Girls (sometimes called China Doll, China Lady or girl head), an image of a young, attractive woman accompanied by color bars that appears for a few frames in the leader of a film, were used from the late 1920s to the early 1990s in filmmaking. Additional topics discussed include the exhibition "Girls on Film" at the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 2005, Kodak Research Laboratories and the British film manufacturer BKSTS.
