Sumario:In this article, the author examines various aspects of design research. Particular focus is given to how many innovation processes are shifting from open source software to open source hardware design. Additional topics discussed include design via crowdsourcing and co-creation, the increased popularity of do-it-yourself (DIY) and "maker culture" and R&D (Research & Development) productivity. Innovation and new product development is also explored, as are various aspects of the open design process.
