| Sumario: | The article examines the relationship between design and values. Particular focus is given to the possibility that artifacts have the power to change the world. Additional topics discussed include how products reflect the conscious and unconscious intentions, values and politics of the individuals and corporations that designed them, how consumer goods can serve human life and living and insights on views of the American philosopher John Dewey. Details relating to how design can be used to cultivate the values of well-being, justice, sustainability and community are also offered.
