These maps can be structured and enriched by markings, explanations, visuals, videos, and drawings for specific purposes to the extent that the software firms allow. In this context, online maps are the materials that can be used effectively in Social Studies course due to the advantages they provide. This study was aimed to investigate to what extent the structured online maps in the form of a webpage contribute to the academic achievement level of the students in Social Studies course. A total of 110 students including 60 students at the 6th grade studying Mehmet Akif Ersoy Middle School in Sivas and 50 students at the 6th grade studying Fatih Middle School in Amasya participated in the study. In both schools, one of the groups was determined as the experimental group while the other was determined to be the control group according to simple random sampling. While forming the groups, the class size, readiness of the students and their learning features were taken into consideration. In order to equilibrate the experimental and control group, both of them were exposed to a pretest. The average of the pretest scores of the groups were tested with "t" test. The data obtained was analyzed with SPSS 18.0 software. The significance of the results was evaluated within 0.05 significance level. The data obtained was analyzed with two way analysis of variance and independent samples t test. According to the results of the study, it can be concluded that using online maps in Social Studies course increases the academic achievement among 6th graders. Based on the results of the study, it can be deduced that using online maps in Social Studies instruction can be beneficial and teachers and teacher candidates of Social Studies should be informed about the use of online maps and how to structure them. Moreover, it is suggested that various studies focusing on the usage of online maps in Social Studies course and its contributions to the instructional processes should be carried out. Çevrimiçi harita kavramı, dünya yörüngesinde bulunan gözlem uydularının elde ettiği görsel ve dijital verilerin yazılım firmalarının hazırladığı web sayfaları aracılığıyla bizlere ulaştırıldığı, basılı haritalara nispeten daha güncel içeriğe sahip olan ve bu içeriğin iki boyutlu ya da üç boyutlu olarak sunulabildiği elektronik haritalar olarak tanımlanabilir. Bu haritalar, haritayı hazırlayan yazılım firmalarının izin verdiği ölçüde yapılandırılabilir ve harita üzerine işaretlemeler, açıklamalar, resimler, videolar ve çizimler eklenerek kullanım amacına göre zenginleştirilebilir. Bu çerçevede, çevrimiçi haritalar sağladıkları bu avantajlar sayesinde Sosyal Bilgiler dersinde etkin bir şekilde kullanılabilecek materyallerdir. Bu araştırmada, Sosyal Bilgiler öğretimine yönelik olarak, web sayfası formunda, yapılandırılmış olan çevrimiçi haritaların öğrencilerin akademik başarılarına ne derece katkı sağlayacağı araştırılmıştır. Araştırmaya, Sivas ili Merkez İlçesi'nde bulunan Mehmet Akif Ersoy Ortaokulu'nda öğrenim gören 60 6. sınıf öğrencisi ile Amasya ili Merkez İlçesi'nde bulunan Fatih Ortaokulunda öğrenim gören 50 6. sınıf öğrencisi olmak üzere toplam 110 öğrenci katılmıştır. Her iki ortaokulda da gruplardan biri deney diğeri ise kontrol grubu olarak belirlenmiş ve gruplar yansız (seçkisiz) örnekleme yöntemlerinden basit yansız (seçkisiz - random) örnekleme şekilde atanmıştır. Uygulama için deney ve kontrol grupları belirlenirken sınıfların mevcudu, öğrencilerin hazırbulunuşluk düzeyleri ve öğrenim durumları dikkate alınmıştır. Deney ve kontrol gruplarının denkliğini sağlamak için her iki gruba da öntest verilmiştir. Grupların öntest puanları ortalamaları arasındaki fark "t" testi ile test edilmiştir. Araştırmada toplanan verilerin analizinde SPSS 18.0 paket programı kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler tekrarlı ölçümler için çift yönlü varyans analizi ve bağımsız örneklemler için t testi aracılığıyla çözümlenmiş ve verilerin anlamlı olup olmadığı 0,05 anlamlılık düzeyinde değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırmanın bulgularından hareketle, Sosyal Bilgiler öğretiminde çevrimiçi haritaların kullanımının akademik başarıyı arttırdığı söylenebilir.
