Sumario:The article discusses human-machine interactions, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence. The author examines human experiences of frustration with artificial intelligence systems which are designed to mimic human affect, such as automated telephone and email messaging systems. It is suggested that humans experience feelings of deception when such systems do not perform well enough. Depictions of artificial intelligence in popular culture, including the films "Her" directed by Spike Jonze and "I, Robot" starring Will Smith, are also discussed.
