Aim To explore research into the factors that may influence a nurse's decision to use seclusion when supporting a person with a learning disability. Method An integrative review method was used, searching nursing databases and using the research found to generate themes. Findings Patient factors, staff factors and environmental/organisational factors influence the nurse's decision to use seclusion. Conclusion Further research is required, specifically in the field of learning disabilities and seclusion.
