| Summary: | Dealing with pain and struggling with its management has become an integral component of the course of illness for millions of patients worldwide. Unfortunately, despite its prevalence, pain is frequently overlooked and left untreated. Pain is associated with nearly every organ system, and skin is no exception, in fact due to the large density of innervation to the skin, dermatological conditions present with uniquely complex symptoms of pain and pose inherent difficulty in treatment. This paper aims to highlight the cutaneous pain pathways and the numerous modes of pain transduction and modulation, common pediatric dermatological conditions associated with painful symptoms, and finally discuss the merits of both pharmacological and nonpharmacological management of painful dermatological conditions.
