Cuando en 1767 Carlos III expulsó a los jesuitas, una beata: Mª Antonia de San José, asumió la responsabilidad de continuar con la labor de estos religiosos, centrándose en la realización de los Ejercicios Espirituales al modo de San Ignacio por la Provincia de Paraguay.
