      ab: Investigated a little–known layer in domestic science knowledge development of sports and physical education in Japan after the restoration of imperial power. Attention is drawn to the active introduction of new government sports and their rapid popularization among population and the place of education in cultivating international sports practices. The aim of the study - reveal features of the motor activity of the population of Japan at the turn of the centuries. Research methods. The work is based on using historical analysis of scientific literature and sources; systematic and comparative analysis. Research results and discussion. Each school at its discretion has made the educational program and picked up the required materials. For example, in an ordinary school educational programs on geography, history, drawing, singing was the choice of students, while the gymnastics - is necessary.
