Summary:Statistical software packages are an essential tool in teaching undergraduate statistics courses. Two of the better-known packages are SPSS and Minitab. There are no known articles empirically comparing the PC versions of SPSS and Minitab. This paper provides an empirical comparison between SPSS and Minitab in regards to student user-friendliness. Three criteria are used in order to implement this comparison: self-efficacy, engagement and perceived disorientation. The items measuring the three criteria are derived from six validated scales. A two-factor MANOVA design is performed on the three dependent variables. The results indicate that students perceive no significant difference in regards to student user friendliness between SPSS and Minitab. The lack of a statistically significant difference exists among course level (Beginning Statistics and Intermediate Statistics) and user-friendliness criteria (self-efficacy, engagement and perceived disorientation).
