| Sumario: | The research object of the present paper is the concept of festivals in style of heavy metal, the subject of the research - expression of the concept of festivals in lyrics of metal songs. For selection of lyrics the electronic encyclopaedia 'Encyclopaedia Metallum' was used. The designation 'festival' was chosen as a key word for describing such an event; the research studies lyrics in English, 18 in total. The songs belong to the last two decades and they have been performed by various bands, being specialized from instrumental metal to the most extreme subgenres of metal - black metal and death metal. The understanding of a festival in the lyrics of heavy metal crucially differs from the comprehension of festival as an emotionally positive event. Only several samples reflect a festival as a cultural event or that of battle and victory. The majority of lyrics bear a negative connotation and destructive atmosphere. They reflect festival as a pagan celebration and rituals connected with evil. Festivals are considered also as invoking horror and fear. The concept of a festival is also reflected in desire to melt, but not in its simplest form - to wear a mask. The lyrics about violence as a festivity are emotionally unpleasant. In general such texts adopt features of horror fiction both concerning characters and spacetime. Space and time in lyrics are mainly mystified and mythologized by means of such attributes as, for instance, night, midnight, sanctuary, darkness, the evil spirits, dead bodies, daemons, etc. A characteristic feature of these lyrics is the carnivalization.
