Sumario:The article discusses challenges associated with static public identifiers used by RFID tags and bar codes to authenticate genuine physical items and distinguish them from counterfeits. Topics include the cryptographic implementation of a challenge/response protocol on devices requiring a keyed cryptographic module and an obfuscated secret key, the use of silicon physical unclonable functions (PUF) circuits for challenge/response authentication to combat counterfeiting, and the successful application of machine-learning attacks on PUF implementations.
