| Sumario: | This article explores what it means to be human. Modern humans are classified biologically as Homo sapiens sapiens. Human beings are definable by their genetic code, and are closely related to chimpanzees and bonobos — somewhat less so to gorillas, orang-outangs and gibbons. Humans are also physical entities, located in space and time. They occupy a relatively confined place on or near the surface of the planet Earth — which is one of the lesser planets of the local solar system and is separated from the other planets by much greater distances than any that can encountered on the Earth's surface.Yet, as physical entities on the planet, human beings are special in one way: they are extraordinarily complex beings.
