This paper studies the process that makes «the Grail» out of a simple and ordinary vase, that is, a functional object. First, we show the way the author managed to extent the sacred history in order to insert the vase in this new context. Then we expose the construction of a link between the blood of Jesus and the recipient in order to big up its new dimension as a divine symbol. Therefore, our goal is to understand the first steps of an ordinary recipient, which transform it into a symbol of divine grace. El Joseph d'Arimathie (c. 1200) de Robert de Boron pretende construir la historia del Grial e insertarla en el contexto de la historia sagrada. Para lograrlo, el autor cristianiza por completo el objeto y lo ubica en el centro de una estrategia que busca convertirlo en reliquia. Este artículo busca dar cuenta del proceso por medio del cual un recipiente común y utilitario es convertido, poco a poco, en «el Grial». En primer lugar, se aborda la manera en que el autor logra ampliar la historia sagrada para introducir allí el recipiente. Luego, se pone en evidencia la construcción de un vínculo entre el recipiente y la sangre de Jesús para exaltar su nueva dimensión de símbolo divino.
