Out of the thomistic comment of the pauline text emerge several and important elements of what could be called the ―political philosophy‖ of Aquinas. The main goal is to show how in Saint Thomas‘ mind any power, except from the divine power, is limited, and this for metaphysical reasons. In other words, it must be said that no human power of any kind can be said ―absolute‖. These reflections of Saint Thomas can enlighten different cases of abuse of authority that sadly are frequently found in many environments of human relationships. El presente trabajo parte de la interpretación que hace Santo Tomás de Aquino del siguiente versículo de la Carta a los Romanos del Apóstol San Pablo: «No hay autoridad que no provenga de Dios» (Rm 13,1). De la interpretación tomista del texto paulino emergen importantes elementos de lo que podría llamarse la ―filosofía política‖ del Aquinate. El propósito central es mostrar cómo en la mente de Santo Tomás todo poder, a excepción del poder divino, es limitado, y esto por cuestiones metafísicas. En otras palabras, se afirma que no existe poder humano, de ninguna clase que sea, que pueda, llamarse ―absoluto‖.
