Sumario:To anyone comfortably ensconced in the publishing industry, its workings probably make perfect sense. To an outsider, however, much of it is a complete mystery. Certain questions which arise are: no control of publishers over the discounts they sell at, reference of retailers such as supermarkets as "non-traditional" outlets when anyone can see that they are almost as traditional as bookshops now, the need of a representative, a distributor, a wholesaler and a retailer between authors and readers. With reference to these, and other related issues, the author relates her experiences along with her husband in starting a publishing company. INSET: Golden rules for start-ups.
