ab: Large publishers are determined to continue their support of Cork International despite its ongoing financial crisis. With few alternative supermarket suppliers, publishers have baulked at the prospect of supplying direct in the event of Cork's demise. Though many publishers are anxious to resist downward pressure on prices by supermarkets, Ian Hudson of Random House Group Ltd. argued that the industry would not benefit from the removal of Cork from the supply chain. Publishers are continuing to supply Cork on a cash-on-delivery basis, and its largest creditors have formed a publishers' committee. Some publishers with limited supermarket business claimed that direct supply would be beneficial and less risky.
