| Sumario: | The article describes the findings of a quantitative survey into salaries in the book publishing sector. Bookseller salaries start at a very low level. While this is an acknowledged blot on the landscape of general bookselling, academic booksellers do not fare much better, as is revealed in a survey commissioned by the Bookseller Association's Academic, Professional and Specialist Booksellers Group for its annual conference two weeks ago. In Great Britain bookselling chains, the average start salary of £4.84 an hour is well below the government's New Earnings Survey average retail figures of £5.80 an hour or £11,591 a year for retail sales assistants.
