In an interesting report, James P.Latham has drawn attention to the possibilities of high-speed electronic scanning equipment in the rapid integration of irregular geographical areas. The basis of the traverse method is that the sum of intercepts along a traverse line is used to estimate the proportion of the total area occupied by the phenomena being intercepted.
