The purpose of the new firm was to produce newsreels and short films that would present a positive picture of the Czechoslovak republic to cinema audiences at home and abroad. With the European political-military situation of 1937-a powder keg for Czechoslovakia too, because of Nazi Germany's ever, stronger claims on its Sudetenland border region, it was of vital importance to present the Czech view to a wider audience and to counterbalance the heavily biased picture of the Sudeten conflict presented by the German state-controlled newsreels. Aktualita was a private company, not a state-owned firm. With a founding capital of Ckr. 100,000, there were four shareholders. 70% of the shares were evenly split between two big Prague publishing houses. Czech film tycoon Milos Havel owned 15% of the share.
