ab: The concept of «Academic Freedom» from famous scientists ' point of view, who were the representatives of «Lviv-Warsaw School» (LWS) (1895-1939), has been disclosed in the article. The author analyzes philosophical and pedagogical reflections on the topic of academic freedom made by Tadeush Chezchovskyi and KazimierzAidukievych. As the author discovered, Chezchovskyi considered academic freedom teaching freedom and learning freedom. Chezchovskyi defined the following principles of scientific research freedom: diligence, objectivity and impartiality. He believed that discussion is the main tool of scientific work. The particular attention is paid to analysis of science freedom four types (freedom of speech, freedom of thought, freedom of methods choice and freedom of problem choice) made by Aidukievych, who found out the need of each of these freedoms for the science advancement. The issue of academic freedom, raised in Kazimierz Twardowsky's works, reflects the unity of their efforts concerning the optimal implementation of the university mission.
