The study was conducted in selected schools of District Solan, (H.P.). The design of study is cross-sectional. Total of 2281 subjects were enrolled comprising 1339 boys and 942 girls within age group 9-16 years. An extensive literature review was done to develop guidelines for refractive errors and their distribution pattern among children. Total of 2281 subjects were studied comprising 58.7% males and 41.3% females aged 9-16 years(6[sup th] to 10[sup th] standard) drawn from different Government and Private schools of Solan. Subjects were drawn from urban and rural area respectively and screened by using Snellen's E Chart. Overall incidence of refractory errors was found 8.5% which comprised of 10%females and 7.4%males. Our study showed higher number of cases of refractory errors in females compared to boys.
