| Sumario: | Background: The Institute of Medicine (IOM) in 2014 released key findings and recommendations on End-of-Life (EOL) care calling for basic competency in Palliative Care (PC) for all clinicians working with people with advanced serious illness. In addition, the IOM recommended that educational institutions and professional societies should provide training in PC and EOL concepts to clinicians throughout their careers. Objectives: This study primarily aimed to evaluate the impact of an investigator-developed one-hour, Online PC Education Program on the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) staff nurses' confidence in decision-making related to PC and EOL care and secondarily, the study aimed to describe the acceptability of the one-hour Online PC Education Program. Methods: A one-group, posttest only study design was utilized to evaluate the impact of a one-hour Online PC Education Program specifically developed for SNF staff nurses using eight key constructs to the provision of quality PC and EOL care. The Post Online PC Education Program, the study participants' confidence level in decision-making related to PC and acceptability ratings of the Online PC Education Program were examined. Results: Twenty-seven of 52 SNF staff nurses (51.9% participation rate) completed the one-hour Online PC Education Program and the 15 minutes post-Online PC Education Program evaluation survey in its entirety. The overall mean score for confidence in decision- making related to PC and EOL care was M = 91.11 (SD = 6.85; range = 75-100). The overall mean score for acceptability of the Online PC Education Program was M = 26.55 (SD = 4.06; range = 17-30). Higher mean scores indicate higher confidence level in decision-making and higher acceptability of the program. Both mean scores for confidence level in decision-making and acceptability of the Online PC Education Program were found to be moderately high to very high levels after the completion of the Online PC Education Program. Conclusion: Online education is an acceptable method of educating nurses who work in SNF on PC and EOL concepts. The Online PC Education Program has a positive impact on the confidence level of nurses on the PC and EOL-related decision-making process.
